How to Refill 920 HP black, magenta, cyan, yellow cartridges in home.

These cartridges were responsible for the publishing about which is the best printer in 2012. This article is a publishing that we do, and that we considered for the postings in our blog as a personal opinion. It is noteworthy that these cartridges are high performance and good operation and use a head for the printing process.

These cartridges actually work as ink tanks in which the ink stays, thus the head processes it.
There are two types of these cartridges, the normal cartridges that can be bought in the stores as 920 HP cartridges and, the Extra Large or XL version cartridges as it is known. Depending on the type of cartridges, the refilling procedure will be different.
The normal ink version cartridges use 6ml of ink to print about 150 pages, whereas the Extra Large version or how it is better know XL can be provided with 10ml of ink to print about 250 pages.

Take into account that the black ink cartridges always use pigmented ink and the color ink cartridges use water based ink or dye ink as it is know on the market. Those type of inks differienciate each other by the quality of their printings. If you need to know more about ink, please visit our post about differences between dye ink and pigmented ink.

Step No. 1
The first thing that should always be done is to place the cartridge on an easy to clean surface or on a black fabric that gets not affecte by the colo of the ink. In case ink spilling on any other surface, try to clean it as son as posible.

Step No. 2
After locating where to put the ink cartridge so it will not spill and damage our clothes or a place that does not need to fall color ink, the next step is the bottom of our cartridge.

To avoid that when refilling the cartridge spills ink, remember to supply the ink to the ink cartridge slowly. The cartridge can even be covered with the plugs it brings at the beginning.

Step No. 3
Remember there are two types of cartridges, for the normal cartridge use a syringe of the corresponding ink color and provide it with 6ml of ink, for the XL version cartridge provide about 12ml. Remember to do this process as slow as possible. Do not use the same syringe.

Step No. 4
The cartridge is refilled by its vent hole. To be able to see the vent hole it is needed to remove the label on top of the cartridge. Remember that always that the label is removed, it should be placed again to avoid ink to get quickly dried.

Step No. 5
After placing the ink cartridges it is needed to print some test pages. To do so, it is necesary to go to the following links, there the qualit of the cartridges can be verified. Color test page and Black color test page; just click print on the top left...

Printers of this type have a small page counter chip at the bottom that is read by a sensor located where the cartridges are cleaned or where the ink cartridges are housed, is not really that the sensor indicates the amount ink in the cartridge but it has proportionally the chip is programmed to identify how many pages can be printed with the ink in the cartridge.

When the ink is reaching the limits of pages, a message will indicate that the cartridge is running or has run out of ink.

The explanation on how the cartridge recognize the quantity of ink left can be see in our post “I refilled my cartridges, place them in the printer but i continous indicating they are empty”.

Normally when refilling this type of cartridges, the printes shows this error indicating the cartridges are empty. It can be eliminated by clicking on Accept. In case this does not eliminate the error, press the Reset button for about 10 to 15 seconds...

Another way to refill these cartridges is by using the hole the ink comes out:

To do so, it is recomended to place the cartridge on a surface where ink spilling cannot make any damage and perfom a very slow refilling with a syringe. See the following image.

Continue with the same procedures of the quantity of ink for the refilling or the cartridges. Do it slowly and avoid doing many perforations, just make the necessary perforations to maintain this process successfully. If help is needed, please contact us.
