In this post, we will show you how to refill the HP 84 cartridges. These ink cartridges come in the following colors: black (c5016a); light cyan (c5017a) and light magenta (c5018a) and are usually used on HP Designjet and office pro printers. They are also known for their high yield pages and made of water-based or dye ink.
The HP 84 black ink cartridge uses about 69ml of ink, while the colored ones use 89ml, you must inject the same quantity of ink as mentioned above during the refilling process.
This cartridge is compatible with the following printer models:
HP Designjet 10ps, 20ps, 50ps, 30, 90, 120 and 130. Unfortunately, these printers are no longer available for purchase. If you already have one of these models, refilling the cartridges is a very good option.
Step 1:
Place the ink on a flat surface covered by an old piece of fabric to prevent the ink from damaging the flat surface you are using.
Step 2:
This type of cartridges is refilled by removing the bottom part as shown in the image below. You will access the cartridge injector and the exact spot where you must refill the cartridge.
You must cut the cartridge exactly on the red line.
Step 3:
After removing the label from the printer, the image below it is what you will see on your ink cartridge. Remove the small rubber ball marked as number 1 in the picture
Please do this as slowly and carefully as possible, and try to avoid pushing the rubber ball into the cartridge. Once you extract it, make sure you have it and don’t lose it.
Step 4:
You may now fill the syringe with the proper amount of ink. If you are using a regular ink cartridge, fill the syringe with 69ml of ink. If on the contrary, you are using an extra large one, you must apply 84ml of ink.
During the refilling process, please only insert the tip of the syringe to avoid damaging the ink cartridge and leaving a permanent leak. And remember to inject the ink as slowly as possible.
Step 5:
After this procedure is done, put the small rubber ball back on the cartridge, this rubber will maintain the ink inside the cartridge. Do it very carefully to avoid pushing the ball inside the cartridge, they are very hard to find. When the rubber ball has been put back on the cartridge, put the cartridge downward to make sure there is no leak from the injection spot.
Step 6:
Put the bottom lid back on the cartridge, and leave it with the lid facing downwards just to check if there is no ink leak. If you have correctly followed every step, your cartridge should be working perfectly.
