How to install a continuous ink system on canon pixma ip2702 printers

This post will teach you how to install a continuous ink system on your canon pixma ip2702 in twelve simple steps you can repeat anywhere.

This printer is one of the best home-use devices out there thanks to the japanese FINE 210 and 211 ink cartridges it works with. Since these ink cartridges hold a lot of ink in them, they’re usually chosen for CISS printing.

Continuous ink systems have revolutionized print savings, offering a large amount of printed pages for a relatively low cost in comparison to having to buy new ink cartridges every single time. This is what many customers have been looking for.

We recommend you use this printer only at home, and that you avoid printing large quantities of documents with it. This is not a multifunction printer and you will only be able to print with it.

The fact that it has a single task makes the entire system more effective: the simpler the printer, the fewer the problems it will have. A canon pixma ip2702 printer won’t have as many issues as other CISS printers, and you will be able to print many pages with it without having any issues.

As you probably know by now, continuous ink systems are a small customization you can install on your computer. The printer will gather ink from the ink tanks it brings, and use it for regular printing jobs. We recommend you read this following post regarding CISS components before giving this installation a try.

We also recommend you read the printer manufacturer’s instructions and stick to the printer’s own capacity, even if this continuous ink system offers you printing in large scales. You must always respect the rules and boundaries your printer works under, and the canon pixma ip2070 is not the exception.

Read all the information regarding this installation process attentively, and please contact us by leaving a comment in the section below this post is anything goes wrong with it.

CISS installation procedure for the canon pixma ip2070 printer:

We suggest you only use continuous ink systems that include silicone hoses. They are very flexible and frail, and will contribute to your printer’s overall functioning. They will not get in the way of the cartridge carriage and will contribute to ink circulation.

Here’s everything you’ll need for this procedure:

1. You will need a canon pixma ip2702, preferably a new one.
2. Canon 210 and 211 ink cartridges. A brand new printer usually brings regular sized ink cartridges with it, which will give you top printing quality. We also recommend you use brand new ink cartridges. Once this original set of ink cartridges becomes damaged, please buy the extra-large ones to get a higher page yield and to use the same cartridges for a longer period of time.
3. Ink bleeders for the cartridges.. The next picture will show you how they look.

4. You will also need a drill bit to make a hole large enough for the hose connectors we’ll attach to the ink cartridge. Please take a look at the following image.

We will now show you what kind of connectors you will need for the hoses on your canon ink cartridges. We recommend you take these plugs or connectors to a hardware shop, and have them find the proper drill bit for you. This will assure no air escapes the CISS when installing it. We cannot give you an exact measure, but we’re sure you’ll be able to find the one you need there.

5. A 4-colors continuous ink system for canon printers. Most CISS bring all their accessories with them, as displayed in the picture above. However, the parts we’ve just mentioned aren’t included in some of these ink systems.

6. Dyed or water-based ink. You can also use pigmented inks if you have them at hand, but we recommend you read the following post regarding the basic differences between these two. These ink tanks hold up to four (4) ounces of ink inside them.
Please read this post slowly to avoid any confusions or misunderstandings. This tutorial may or may not work for you, even if you’ve followed these steps strictly. If this is your case, please contact us by leaving a comment in the section below this post.

CISS installation procedure for canon printers:

Remember to follow all these steps just as we’ve described them in this post. Before you begin, we suggest you do this entire procedure on a flat surface you don’t mind getting covered in ink, and using some form of protection for your hands, such as latex gloves.

You may have one or more ink spills during this tutorial, so please put a piece of cloth or plastic on the surface to avoid staining it.

Step #1:
First, make sure the ink cartridges aren’t clogged by the time of the CISS installation. This procedure is usually done in brand new printers but, if you’re working with an used model, please check all the cartridges and print heads are working well and reaching high print quality standards.

You should now print a test sheets to review all these things. The printer’s own manual could come in handy when installing it and using it for the first time, so please stick to the information inside it.

If you’re using a brand new printer, we also suggest you print several test sheets just to make sure everything’s working properly before installing the CISS on it. If everything’s working properly, you may process. Please read the following post to learn how to print a test sheet with your printer.

Step #2:
Now that you’ve printed a test sheet and checked the print heads are working properly,  turn your printer off and open the gate that leads to the ink cartridges. You may now disconnect the printer’s power cord and move the cartridge carriage to a comfortable changing position.

Keep in mind the printer must be turned off if you wish to move the cartridge carriage; this will not affect the printer at all as long as you do it slowly and delicately.

Step #3:
Take all the ink cartridges out of the printer. If you need help with this, please read the following post. Be very careful when removing the cartridges and avoid touching the contacts and print heads on it.

We even recommend you keep the original plastic packaging the come in, just to put them back inside whenever you’re drilling them. The next image will show you where these parts are: #1 indicates the contacts, and #2 marks the print heads.

The next image will show you what specific packaging we’re talking about on your canon 210 and 211 ink cartridges. We suggest you drill and puncture the ink cartridges once they’re inside this packagings to avoid touching the contacts and print heads on them.

Step #4:
In this step, you must drill the ink cartridges to install the CISS hoses on them. You will use the same drill bit we mentioned earlier for this. The next image will show you exactly where to puncture the cartridge.

Make sure you leave no drilling residues inside the ink cartridge; you should also keep this bit as straight and firm as possible when drilling. Please keep in mind these holes must be a bit smaller than the actual hose connectors, just to keep all the air out.

Important note: When drilling the cartridge, we recommend you cover the upper orifice on the cartridge and drill on the lower-left side of it. You should keep the distance of one hose between the upper orifice and the new drilling site, just to make sure your printer will recognize this tricolor ink cartridge in the future. If you don’t do this, a certain part in the print heads will get in the way of the contacts and avoid them to reach the printer completely.

The next picture will show you where to drill your ink cartridge. Please take a look at it.

Step #5:
Now that you’ve drilled your ink cartridges, please install the hose connectors we mentioned earlier. They must be attached firmly to the ink cartridge, letting no air pass and helping the connectors work perfectly. Now look at the next picture.

Step #6:
Once you’ve installed the hose connectors on your cartridge, fill the ink tanks up with four (4) ounces of dyed ink per color.

Step #7:
You should now add all the ink colors though the proper orifice. Please have the cartridges out of the printer while you’re doing this, and keep them in the same positions they would be at inside the printer.

You will need to cut and adjust the CISS hoses depending on the distances between the cartridges, which tend to vary from one to the other. Take na look at the next picture.

Step #8:
Install the CISS joints to the hoses. We call these little elbows the CISS joints because they help the ink system to adjust to the printer, and keeps it out of the printing process.

Step #9:
Attach each ink tank to its corresponding ink cartridge. You could test these hoses out on your printer, just to verify the different lengths of the hoses and how they work inside it.

Step #10:
Now that the continuous inks system has been successfully installed in your cartridges, you will need to get the ink flowing from the tanks to the cartridges. The cartridge bleeder will help you extract some of the ink from the cartridges when they’ve been refilled.

In this particular case, you must remove some ink from them and make the ink from the tanks reach the cartridge through the hoses you installed on them.

You may stop once you notice the ink has moved from the tanks and filled the cartridges. Once this has happened, you must stop pushing any more ink to prevent overfilling the cartridge and causing ink spills inside the printer.

The CISS hoses should now look like the ones in the next picture after you’ve filled them with ink completely. Please take a look at the following picture for an accurate depiction.

Step #11:
You must now clean all ink residues left in your printer during the installation process, just to keep your paper sheets clean and ink-free. Please be very careful around the rollers where the sheets move, and remove all the ink you see on them, if any, with a napkin. You should also look for any paper napkin residues, given the case you used one.

After all this procedure is done, your CISS should look a bit like the one in the following picture. Make sure the ink hoses aren’t rubbing or crashing against any of the printer’s components, since this could block the cartridge carriage in it. If this happens, your printer will send out an error message. Please take a look at the following picture.
carry ink cartridges
carry ink cartridges
Step #12:
You have to clean any ink residue that appears on the printer to avoid pages out stained, be very careful around the area where they spend pages if bleeding cartridge has fallen ink have to remove it, use napkins and no residue napkin either.

After all the above procedure to do an installation like the photo that appears next, we must look to the ink does not rub hoses and to prevent the printer carriage jam because in the future this will present an error in our printer. see picture...

Step #13:
Finally, you will need to print a test sheet with this printer now that the continuous ink system has been installed. You should look for the sensor on the ink cartridge gate, which should stay open during this printing process.

Now have your printer print a few test sheets and take a close look at the ink cartridges. This will let you know of any obstruction or jam that may be occuring inside it. If there aren’t any, just place the hoses back in place and resume your regular printing. If you have any questions regarding this subject, please post a comment in the section below this post and we will be happy to help you.
